Elder Miner Growing Up

Nathan--00-12-31(15-31)B

Five years old

Elder Nathan Miner has a quiet demeanor. He was a towhead as a child, hair bleached white by the summer sun, and his hungry, peaceful eyes often looked for recognition from Mom or Dad.

From birth Nathan has had a knack for anything physical. He climbed on a bike for the first time, his mother steadying him and dad behind the camera. A little push and he was off, never wavering. On his return he glanced over at dad and the camera, smiling and proud. Nathan was never shy of the camera, and would pose with his family and friends when the camera came into view.

He played soccer and lacrosse while in school, but particularly enjoyed rock climbing, climbing often with his older brother Daniel (who went to Romania on his mission), and even mentoring his brother Justin, nine years his junior. Nathan and Daniel each worked the rock walk wall at Lifetime fitness for several years. Nathan dabbled playing the tuba in middle school.

Nathan has a special relationship with his siblings. He loves to wrestle and tease his little brother Justin. Nathan is kind, thoughtful, and sensitive. Although mild, he enjoys having fun and being outdoors. We hiked and camped often, Nathan often leading out to explore anything with a challenge. He and his younger sister Celeste are quite accomplished in parkour—when we went to parks they would clamber and scale rooftops, chimneys, gazebos, and anything on which they could get a toe or finger hold, and then prance from rooftop to wall, and leap from ground to eave.

Nathan and his seven siblings are particularly close, and enjoy doing active things together. When together there is wonderful noise and pandemonium.

The family, 2013

Nathan is particularly sensitive to the Spirit. He’s held leadership positions in his quorums, and knows the gospel of Christ well. On his own he interjects his thoughts and testimony when gospel topics come up, at family home evenings and other spiritual gatherings, Nathan is one to always “be there,” mentally and spiritually, not just in body.
